We take a loop out west of Esperance, via Pink Lake, only this one isn’t pink any more (the 2018 brochure still shows it as pink, but the sign says it hasn’t been pink in years, Mmmmm)

Did I mention the wine last night?
People coming and going is the norm in caravan park, only here it’s a little more energetic, lots of people are leaving today, so a sleep in is not going to happen.

At bit like Mt Isa, the mine and the town are intrinsically linked, with the town bordering the mine or the otherway around.

Up, so we can be in town at about 8:30 for the tour of the Kalgoorlie Super Pit, the biggest open cut gold mine in Australia. I’ve been trying to get and do a mine tour for ages. I had hoped to do the Tom Price Mine, but it was not running the day we were there. In hindsight that might have been good, as I get to do the superpit instead.

A day I’ve been looking forward to for a while. Finally hitting the Nullarbor, although sad too as it kinda signals the beginning of the end of the trip.
We go out via Coolgardie, not as big as I was expecting, almost a ghost town really. Back down to Norseman and finally heading east. That’s 200km done.

With the 2.5 hr time change, we officially wake up very late. What a great night’s sleep, even with the trucks not that far away it is so peaceful.

Up again lateish, it’s overcast so it is the coolest we’ve been for ages. We start the final push east and we aim for Ceduna.
A quick stop at the SA quarantine station to donate some fruit and veg, then on into town (to buy the same fruit and veg back).

Overnight Caitlin has come down with a high fever. Neurophen is keeping it under control but it is pretty high.
This morning her fever is still high, and she doesn’t feel well. We had planned on moving down the coast today, but there is no imperative. So we book in for another night.

Caitlin has a slightly better night, so we think the fever has basically broken, so we’ll head off today.
We have 400km over the next two days to do so we can be in Port Lincoln on Thursday afternoon. I’ve found a couple of campsites that look good. Our first world trouble is one is about 100km from Ceduna, the other is about 100km from Port Lincoln. So a either a bigger drive today or tomorrow.
