Day 117 – Ambrosia to Ceduna

Up again lateish, it’s overcast so it is the coolest we’ve been for ages. We start the final push east and we aim for Ceduna.

A quick stop at the SA quarantine station to donate some fruit and veg, then on into town (to buy the same fruit and veg back).

We’ll book into a van park, we’ve done three nights free camping, so a wash and some power will be welcome tonight.

I’ve really enjoyed the trip over the Nullarbor. I expected it to be, not necessarily boring, but maybe a bit tedious, but it’s been great. Although the thought that we’ve just burnt through 230ltrs of fuel might stop me from turning around and driving back again for a little while yet.

We unhitch the van and do a quick tour of the town, Ceduna is pretty small.
We drive into town, and take a walk out on the jetty, we talk to a couple people fishing. It appears the whiting are biting. On the way back, one of the anglers points out two stingrays swimming about. The kids love them, but apparently that will be the end to any good fishing today.

We drive around the bay and see a road that leads down to the headland. Only later do we find out it is really a 4×4 track, so we carry on. Down to the point and a bit of a walk around.

The track continues around, so we follow it, after about 1 km, we come to some super soft sand and high dunes. I don’t have the appetite to get bogged today and we’re really low on fuel, so we turn around and come back the way we came.

I’ve got the car booked into the dealership at Port Lincoln for its 40,000km service. But they can’t fit it in till Friday, so we have three days to do 400km, so that will force the pace down a little.

Dinner at the local hotel. Maybe today we can start to adjust to SA time? It’s hasn’t been light so late in the evening so far on the trip – the kids are not keen going to bed when the sun is still up.
