Day 87 – Carnarvon to Denham (Shark Bay)

We have a slow start as we plan to visit the Carnarvon Space Museum, but it doesn’t open till 10. There was a manned flight tracking station here for a few years during the Apollo missions and OTC dish. It mostly a museum about the moon landings, Liam loves this stuff….Who am I kidding, I love this stuff!

First we ride in the Apollo simulator, we all garb up in our space suits, which are very stylish! We climb aboard and lie flat on our backs in a mock Apollo command module. They have a tv screen above our heads showing a video of the countdown to take off, and the beds we are on shake a little at the appropriate time. It’s a little lame (craptastic to use Justine’s favourite word), but we all have a bit of fun and enjoy it more than we should.

The rest of the museum is interesting enough, they have put in a huge effort for such a small town, it was really worth the effort. From here we drive the 300 kms to Denham, again there are two roadhouses along the way and pretty much nothing else.

Denham is not huge, but it’s a nice town that has done a lot of work on it’s foreshore, they have what looks to be a great playground. Like Osprey, it’s really windy, maybe even more so.

We pull into the van park and Justine picks a “Wind protected” site rather than a “Sea View”. Lucky she did, as even here the weber needs some help as it takes about 2hrs to cook dinner. I need to drag back out my jacket and after dark it’s damn cool. We need to give the weber some protection to cook dinner.

  1. Just finished reading a book about Apollo 17.”The Last Man On The Moon’, & another one on Apollo 8 by Jim Lovell…..so if I was there, I would have suited up, & jumped on board the command module in a heartbeat……..Some kids never grow up!!!
    Ciao PK xx
