Day 6 – Barrington Tops to Merriwa

A late start to the day.   We’re not in any hurry.    Given we’ve got full water tanks and we can top up when we empty the dunny in Scone, we all have a shower, such a luxury in a place like this.   So it’s after 10:30 when we pull out.   The road continues to be pretty rough and the potholes just seem to get bigger.   Eventually we’re on the road downhill, and it’s steep!  I’ve got awful flashbacks of a cross between French Pass in NZ in the motor home and the Mt Selwyn decent from last year.  I take most of the steeper sections in 1st gear and with the van brakes on 8.  Fortunately we don’t come across too many cars.   We finally hit the tar, phew!  From here it’s a pretty easy run into Scone.  I must admit the fuel economy coming out was heaps better than the run in.

Day 4, Narrabri to Yarrie Lake

A late start (after a middle of the night wake up from Caitlin).  So we’re not out till just after 10am.  Fortunately we only need to go about 30odd km today.   We navigate the great backroads and pull in to Lake Yarrie, this perfectly round lake.  It’s about 800m or so in diameter, and only about 6’ (2mtr) deep.  We get a powered site right on the lake for only $25, bargain!  But better than the price is the location.   A beautiful day, and while only in the teens, there was little wind and it’s amazing in the sun.

Day 89 – Denham to Lucky Bay

A windy night, when we wake we find the young couple in the tent next to us are having trouble. Their tent has these rubbish pegs, I’ve seen paperclips with more metal in them. That and the fact they are trying to hammer it into near rock. Speaking of hammer, they’re doing this with a saucepan, I’d lent them a hammer last night. In all the wind the tent is having trouble staying put. If we would have been staying I would have lent them some heavy duty pegs
