Floor down

I forgot to mention, as we don’t have a laundry either, we’re jerry rigged one outside.  Some of the camping gear has come in handy to keep the area covered.  It seemed to do the job.

Of course it’s rained the whole week, and seems like it will rain all next week as well.

Monday and Tuesday the guys continued to replace framing timbers, not just to replace the termite damaged ones, but also to try and square up the room.    All fiddly work so at lot of effort, but it doesn’t seem like much has happened.

They put in a couple more brick piers to reinforce the floor, given cement sheeting is going down, it’s all going to weight a bit.

Wednesday a termite dude came out to give the room a spray, not that there are any signs of current termites, all the damage is really old, so as mentioned the termites here would be on the old age pension!

Other than the bath being delivered, not much happened Wed either.

Today was the complete opposite.

We get a message at 6:30am to confirm the sparkie will be here between 7 and 7:30. Crap. Kinda expected, but that information would have been useful yesterday.   I jump in the shower and as I’m getting ready for them to arrive, we see this hand coming over the side gate.  That’s odd.  I go out to investigate and is the rubbish guy come to collect all the building waste.  I’ve met him before, but it would have been nice to know he was coming…..

Angus arrives and the tidy up starts.

Finally around 8:30 the Electricians turn up…..mmm…. 7am my butt….

It took a while with the electricians to make sure they were on the same page as to where all the lights and switches need to go.

Additionally, we’re taking the opportunity while we have access the back side of the walls that adjoin the bathroom, to add a power point into Caitlin’s room and repair one in Liam’s

The guys finish off adding some joists in the sub floor and start laying the FC Sheeting.  Of course, this is the same time the electricians are trying to do their first fix.

So, a good day for progress and we have a floor down and all the wiring is in, but I fear that works is going to come to a screaming holt soon.

The windows aren’t due now till the 25th. While there is some waterproofing, ceiling and plasterwork etc that needs to be done first.  The tiler can’t start till the window is in, so that mean around the end of the month.  Apparently, he’s estimating a week for tiling, then the fittings need to go in, so middle of next month is looking like the earliest now.  Bugger…..

We order the heater (Justine deferred to me, god I hope this is the right call).  We’ve worked out it will just fit between the larger skylight opening and the door between the Laundry.   I hope so, as the sparkie has wired up for it in this location now.

While not specifically needed for the bathroom, we order the ceiling fans for the bedrooms too.  What a saga.  I ideally trying to get the same model for all four rooms, but our bedroom, because of the raked (angled) ceiling, needs a smaller blade diameter, and needs to be able to handle and angle.

The 3 front bedrooms need the fan to be the main light, so we also need a fan with a light that will put out a bit of oomph (technical term that….)

So, to try and find a fan model, that comes in multiple sizes, had decent lumens on the light, and can handle a 15° ceiling angle (that wasn’t butt ugly) was a real chore. Speaking of lights, it seems some fans you seriously cannot buy a replacement LED panel, best we figure you need to replace the fan…. F.F.S.

Finally, the tiles are due for delivery tomorrow.  We’ve been told that they’ll just offload the pallet with a crane and drop it where they can.  Hopefully this will at least be in the driveway on the property.   At the time we thought we’d have the 3 builders to help move them to somewhere more appropriate, but late in the day they advised they wouldn’t come tomorrow.  They have another small job to finish and it’s not like anything here is urgent now…..  To top it all off the rain continues.

That will probably be it for the week.

  1. Whew what a week, having to wait until the 25th for the window must at this stage feel like months and then take a week for the tiler. Renovating is not for the faint-hearted, probably feels like you are in an episode of Grand Designs.
Who would have thought trying to find ceiling fans that work for you would be like trying to find a dodo.
Where from the temporary position of the laundry does the water from the washing machine go. ?

  2. There is a drain (outside the kitchen) right next to the washing machine. That’s one of the reasons we put it there. So pretty easy really.
