Grantham’s Bend – Day 1

A nice, but checkered night sleep.   I finally get up at 6:30 and have a coffee in the fresh of the morning looking at the river.  While fresh, it was nowhere near cold enough to bother with the diesel heater.

Toasted bacon and egg sandwich off the barby.   Does it get any better than this?

Finally, I get all my gear setup, the wireless 4G router, the monitor I found in the office that runs off 12v and the laptop.   I’ve got a fully functional office, off the grid.  I have realized now that I don’t have enough 12v outlets, so while I can make do, I might need to get a 12v splitter.

Around 10 as the sun gets above the trees, I pull out the portable solar panels.   I’ve now got three on the roof, but the angles are not always the best.   I’ve gone from 93% when I arrive yesterday afternoon, down to 74% overnight.

It ends up being a patchy day, sunny then overcast, at least no rain.    While I thought earlier in the day I’d get a full charge, we end up with only around 85%.

It ends up being surprisingly productive working from the van

Another fire and Boom Boom the panda has a marshmellow.

  1. Wow, what a wonderful place for an office, what a shame you can’t have it both ways. Walk a short distance home every night and have your work place there every day.
