Day 97 – Fremantle to Bunbury

The gas fitter has asked if we can deliver the van between 7 and 9, partly to make sure the job is done and we can get on with our travels. Given he’s 30min away 7 ain’t going to happen. As it turns out both Justine and I are awake at 5:30ish and I get up just before 6. We start packing up as quietly as we can.

We finally pull out just before 8, I’ve asked myself the question does Perth have a Peak hour? We need to drive about 30min to Gosnells, it is south east of Perth, so a bit north east of us. We have a great run and get there around 8:30. I guess being school holidays helps.

We un-hitch the van and go to a local playground for the kids, then some shopping. We don’t hear from the guy which is a bit concerning, but we go back to put the cold stuff in the fridge. The oven’s fixed, not sure when he was going to let us know.

With finally a full a compliment of working appliances we head off again, it’s just after 12. Bunbury is our aim, about 170km south.

We take the detour to leave the freeway, we go via Rockingham and Mandurah which are both really big places, and then take the “old coastal road”, only trouble is, you don’t get to see any of the coast, only one section as we go over the estuary bridge. Before we know it 50km later we back on the main highway.

Finally we make it into Bunbury. The place is huge, I’d say it’s bigger than Broome.

After a quick setup, we take the kids across the road to a beach on the bay, they have a ball in the great playground. Then we walk about a km into the main part of town. They have this lookout, but as it has a spiral staircase, it reminds Justine and I a bit too much of Rottnest, I can’t do it, the kids walk up though.

It’s been an odd day. Yesterday afternoon we were still stuck in Perth, last night it was on again. This morning was sitting around waiting and this afternoon was travelling again after 5 nights in the same place. I kinda didn’t really know what to do today.

I setup the Xmas lights and just as well, this park has a high percentage of permanent residents and a lot of them have gone Griswold with their lights.
