Day 13 – Snorkeling at Paradise Cove

Dawn and Justine go for a morning Snorkel off the beach.  We’re not really sure how it happened, a push of the current?, but as they were looking at the Clown fish, Dawn’s ankle touched the hard anemone the fish are hiding in. And yes they do sting!  Apparently it’s hurting quite a bit.

We grab a local bus and take a trip over to Paradise Cove Resort.  It’s on the ocean side of the point we’re on, but much further down and to get there by road means going in the opposite direction.

I’ve been told by a number of people this is the best place to snorkel off the beach just about anywhere in Vila.   We’ll combine it with lunch and it’s a win all round.

We arrive and the place, while small, it’s practically deserted.  Some staff greet us and we say were here for lunch and a swim, they seem OK with it.

As we’re down at the water front getting ready, Liam’s hat blows off into the water.  We slowly watch it float out to the open ocean, never to be seen again.

We start with a swim, and again the coral is not that colourful, but it sure is easy to get to and the variety is pretty good.  Lots of fish around too.   It’s shallow enough to stand up in most parts, only you need to be really careful were you put your feet down.

After a bit Caitlin has had enough and Dawn takes her up to the pavilion where she has a swim in their pool.

After a bit more time, we finish and have a late lunch which was pretty good. I can’t say I’ve seen any guests or people other than staff at all.  So I hope the cost of the meal has helped them along today.

The dining area and bar is in this huge open air wooden hut, well to call it a hut is a bit of an understatement, it such a beautiful and amazingly build structure.  Would love it sit in here with a good rain storm (maybe not a cyclone!)

We see if they can call us a bus to take us back home. They tell us it’s hard to get buses out here and as they are just about to do a change of shift, the resort bus can take us into town with the staff.  OK, that’s nice.    It all takes much longer than expected (Island Time) and it’s over an hour or so later in a very full bus we all leave the resort.  The staff are all nice enough and we have a bit of a chat.  One by one they start getting off.

We get them to drop us at the supermarket, (less complicated than trying to get taken home).  We need some more supplies and it’s easy to get a bus home from here.

Some more of those wild crabs around tonight, one of them is a crazy purple colour
