Day 12 – Rest Day – Again

I heard some noise early morning which seemed unusual.  The place seem so safe, but then we’re behind a gate so there must be some risks.  I have a quick look out the window but I can see anything.  I hope that if it’s anything unusual John and Sarah would probably act.  There is a laneway from the beach to the private road beside our place, so it was maybe someone walking up there.

Anyway around 6am I hear Boris the dog (more on him in a moment) going berserk and there is all this bashing and crashing, What The….?  I jump out of bed to only in time see this huge pig running down the beach back to the village with the dog barking it’s head off through the fence (which it could easily step though).  Boy what a relief.  I wasn’t sure what the hell was going on there for a moment.    I do recall the gate was broken yesterday, so the pig must have just been taking a walk to see if it could find any food.  I wait for the heart rate to calm down.

Now back to Boris. He’s actually owned by the Australian owner of the house, who splits his time between here and Queensland.  Although I get the impression he used to spend a lot more time in Vila than he does now.   Anyway, he appears to have trained the dog to bark only at the locals.   Dark skin, dog goes wild – white skin, nope nothing.  He barks at the gardener next door…. who is here every morning…. Hell, he even barks at Sarah and John who feed him every day.    Justine really embarrassed that the dog has been trained to be a racist.  I figure everyone here knows the dog better than they know us, so what can we do. As the locals walk by and get barked at they all yell “ah, shut up Boris” It’s strange, cause in all other ways he’s a really pleasant peaceful dog.

We don’t end up doing much today.  We don our reef shoes and take another stroll around the point to the Ocean side.  At some stage Liam slipped over and shortly after we realise one of the glass pieces out of his swim mask is missing, we wander back and to everyone surprise find it.  Clear glass in water is not easy to find.

We wander as far down the point as we can and there is this large rocky outcrop that just looks amazing, Liam walks out for a closer look, but we all need to be careful were we walk.

Some more swimming and lazing about.
