Angus and crew arrive at 8, no real surprises for them. Based on what they can see now, they’re not so convinced that Caitlins old rooms ceiling is Asbestos now. Steve, the other builder jumps in with a Stanley knife and cuts away a section of ceiling. Nope just Masonite over the lath and plaster. So no need to get the demo guys back.
While were in Cailtin’s room, we mention the old doorway that would have probably led outside, but now goes to where our bedroom is. Rather than remove the door (or at least door frame), it seems they’ve just put a Masonite board over it and plastered it up. We’ll need to fix that.
The plaster arrives and we discuss ceiling options, we agree a hanging a false ceiling from the current one is the best option.
Also, we discuss the finish between the tiles and the plaster in the bathroom. In the old bathroom, the tiles where obviously on top of the wall and they use a pseudo picture rail to border to the plaster. Just a dust catcher really. So they discuss using a track system to bring the plasterboard above the tiles out so they will be flush with the tiles. I like the sound of that.
They also discuss angling the opening to the skylight to let more light in. Currently it’s just 90° to the ceiling, they’re talking about bringing it down at 45, that will bring in lots more light, particularly into the walled off laundry section.
While we all talking about this stuff, Artie gets into the room, and finds the large opening in the floor under where the old shower was. Woof, she’s gone under the floor. Crap. She’s under there for a good 10-15min. She pops her head up, so at least she’s still alive, but continues to explore. A little later we’re at the door of Caitlins room, and I spot the cat at the bathroom door, her whole face is covered in a huge, ancient, dirt laden cobweb. It looks like she’s wearing a black veil. Fortunately, Justine gets it off in one piece as it’s so old and dry.
So, while not a lot gets done, we have a plan. Given the demo guys don’t need to come back tomorrow the guys can get stuck straight in.
I think Artie is trying to get on the payroll for this job.
