Day 24 – Melbourne to Ballarat

The initial plan was to stay 2 nights in Melbourne, but it seemed clear a few days ago that we could manage it with one night.

In addition to seeing Mark last night today we’re off to Eye Kandy, they are the people who make the decals for Wonderland (and several other brands too).   For some reason some of our decals have started to peel, while others are fine.   They sent me the front and rear logo replacements ages ago, but I didn’t really have the confidence to replace them.   Since then a couple more have started to peel.  I sent photos to them a few months back and they said sure bring it in and we’ll replace them.

So around 9:30 in order to avoid peak hour traffic we leave Dandenong.  As a reminder how spread out Melbourne is, it will be 70km and just over an hour to get to Campbellfield and most of that on freeways.  Add to this that these two suburbs are not really fringe places either.   Melbourne is just so spread out.

We arrive just after 10:30, I reverse into their drive of their industrial unit (no pressure).  They take a quick look and the boss, Andrew says these are the worse he’s seen.   Within minutes they are ripping of the old ones (with some help from Liam) and getting the new ones on.   A couple were really borderline, with only the slightest peeling but they replaced the lot.   It’s so good seeing the van looking a bit more like new again.  The guys were really great, considering the van’s coming up on 3 years old.

We start heading towards Ballarat.   Nowhere near as much wind today, but it rains on and off. Tomorrow is meant to be clearer which will make walking around SH a bit more pleasant.

Across the plains and around Daylesford we start to climb, not too bad, but it does bash the fuel economy around a bit.  You can see it getting cooler outside as we climb.

I expected Ballarat to be pretty big, but it’s even larger than I expected. We find the park and setup the van.  The grass is really wet, not so much the rain, but apparently just no sun to dry it out.

After a coffee we take a trip into the city and a drive about, with a lap around Lake Wendouree.   A spot of shopping and we get back not long before dusk.
