Day 9 – Hervey Bay – Day 6

Overnight I’ve been itching something terrible.  When pumping up the front tires back at Riverheads, I was sure I was getting bitten.  Trouble is they weren’t mozzies, these were Sandflies (Midges).   I don’t react well to them at all.  Justine seems have a few bites too.

Last time I got bitten bad was back in 1770 on the first couple of days of the Oz trip, I suffered for days with these bites until eventually going to a pharmacy where they suggested antihistamines, I’ve never really used them before, but I remember they really did the trick then.   I wasn’t waiting around this time, but the pharmacy didn’t open till 9am.   Within about 15-20mins of taking the tablet the worst of the itching is gone.  Ahhhhh!

Some leisurely reading of a new book I’ve been keen on reading for some time.

We decide to have lunch over at a café overlooking the ocean at Pt Vernon.  The trouble with most of the coastline at Hervey Bay is that due to the trees, you can’t see the ocean from the road.  We’ll here we are a bit higher and the trees a bit thinner.   While it’s a warm 30°+ Day, there is a nice breeze here.   A yummy lunch, the kids have waffles and pancakes,  even the kids serves are pretty large and they can’t finish them.

We pop in to see the grave of Justine grandmother “Maggie”, she passed away after a long illness while we were on the OZ trip, and we got the news when we were in Norseman, just about to hit the Nullarbor Plains.   Is a nice cemetery, and the Kangaroos are in residence.

On the drive back to Dawn’s I see a funny car in the dumbo mirrors, its it?  Can it be?  It looks like a DeLorean!  Sure it enough as I’m driving extra slow it overtakes us.  Stupid, I know, but how cool!

We make the call we’ll leave on Tuesday, so another day to relax around tomorrow.

The kids go in for an afternoon swim.

After the swim, we hear from the driveway the kids next door call out for Dawn, they are two girls about 2 and 4.   Caitlin is happy to have some new playmates.   Eventually Caitlin and Liam head next door to play with their two dogs and have a jump on their trampoline.  It’s a nice distraction for everyone.
