Day 8 – Hervey Bay – Day 5

No rush today.   Up and a bit of blogging time, OK a lot of blogging time.

We mull around the house.  The kids have a swim.  We repack some of the stuff between the car and the van.

After lunch we take a trip into town.   We need to do some shopping and after yesterday’s adventure I want to give the car an “Underwash”,  it’s a Hervey Bay thing.  Similar to a regular car wash, but this one has jet of water that comes up from underneath.  Just the thing to get rid of sand and salt water after a day on the beach.   Not really something you need in Sydney, but here it’s a different story.

On the way back we meet up with Dawn and the kids at the Arkarra Lagoon, these are wetland gardens that Dawn and other locals attend and weed out pest plants.  Oddly I while I driven past them hundreds of times, I don’t think I’ve ever stopped in.   It such a nice place, there is so much wild life about, we see ducks, quite a few turtles and a large colony (a “camp” so I’m told) of Flying foxes.  The area is so much larger than I expected.   Dawn mentioned that most of the ponds have been dried out for ages and only have been refilled with the storms of the last few months.    I have trouble weeding the back garden, this place is huge!

Only a couple more days here, we talk about leaving on Monday or Tuesday, the jury’s still out.
