Day 9 – Walwa to Nariel Creek

This morning is the most active this van park must have been in ages, just about everyone is packing up.  As some of the vans and tents on the riverside leave, we can finally have a good view of the river from where the van is parked.  Oh well, let’s enjoy it while we packup.

Justine has picked out a campground called Nariel Creek, it’s not far south of the township of Corryong.  She recalls going there on a high school camp and thinks it might be good.  It’s only about 60km away so pretty easy.

A stop-off at Corryong for lunch and some supplies then onto the campground.

We arrive at the campground, there is only one other person here, sleeping in just a small swag tent, he’s keen.

We do a lap of the really large campground and settle on a spot that is close to the creek.  Not the most beautiful spot, and the car is at a pretty odd angle. But the van is level and we are also close to a fire pit.  Where we are, the creek banks are a little muddy, so we take a walk downstream and past a gate to where the stones are, the kids enjoy trying to skip stones for a short while, but this quickly overtaken by the desire to find the biggest stone they can lift and trying to hurl it into the creek for the biggest splash.

Back to the van, and not far from us is a small tree swing into the creek, I can assure you the creek is freezing cold, but the lure of the swing has Liam asking if he can go in.  We have hot water for the shower, so what’s the worst that can happen?

To his credit, after the first dunking, he goes back a few more times and has a lot of fun, Caitlin has trouble reaching the swing, so decides to give it a miss.

Justine throws the yabby net in, and casts a reel.   But there is no action on either.

It’s a bit overcast and cool, so we get a fire going and use the freshly charged batteries to get the heater started.
