Day 11 – Grumpy Retreat (Geraldine) to Mt Cook Village

After breakfast, and while the kids have a play, I use the opportunity in the caravan park to empty the grey water and fill up the tanks.   So I’ve only got to move the van 40 or so metres.  Just that change of routine, that lapse of concentration.  I’ve left the power cord connected, as I drive off, “Snap” I’ve pull the cable out of the plug.  Crap!

We fine an electrician in Geraldine and as it pretty early they’re all still in the office ready to go out on jobs.  I could fixed it myself, but this way I’ve got an invoice that a licensed sparkie has done the job.  Lucky they could do it straight away.

Into Fairlie and we stop at the park for the kids to have a play.

A stop at Lake Tekapo for lunch.  Then over more high country.

Up beside Lake Pukaki towards Mt Cook and the Whitehorse Hill Campground.  Unlike last year there is really no snow around at all.  Which at some level is sad, but hopefully we be able to do the Hooker Valley track now.

We arrive at the campgrounds around 4pm, and it ends up being a wilderness convention, at one stage there are 4 of us here.

We go to do one of the shorter walks, we’re only about 200mts in and it starts to drizzle, so we head back.  The rain doesn’t last that long, but it looks like it could start and stop at any stage.

We take stroll around the camping area and then the guys from the wilderness van next to us start kicking at rugby ball.   They are nice enough to let the kids get involved.  Rugby players our kids are not!

The scenery just does not get old.
