Day 35 – Beechworth Day In

Well lockdown is upon us.  It’s not super clear what our status is as far as returning to NSW.   There are “Affected Areas”, “Areas of Concern” and “High Concern”, all of Victoria is an “Affected Area”, and the best we can tell we haven’t been to any Area of Concern, high or otherwise.

We find the online form and put in our declaration.  As we’re booked in for tonight, so we don’t need to leave at 10, or today at all for that matter.

It’s raining pretty heavily this morning.  We get the kids on the tablets to do some online schoolwork.  The pop up desk is coming in handy today.

They do some schoolwork, and Liam has a Zoom assembly with his Teachers and friends.

We discuss out plans, and while I’d like to be away a few more days, we agree to leave tomorrow and try and get home on Sunday afternoon.   Between doing the schoolwork and the rain for next few days, home seems a simpler option. A campsite around Yass, seems like the halfway point.   We could probably push all the way home, but with all the unpacking and what we’ll take the extra day.

I go into town to get a few supplies that will get us home and take a couple of photos of the very quiet town.  It’s a bit of a shame, as Justine was really looking forward to spending a bit of time here, browsing the shops and visiting the gaol.

Back into the van park and I notice they now have a closed sign up.  That’s got to hurt.

A very lazy afternoon, not much happens at all.

The rain holds off long enough for dinner on the BBQ, almost, just the last 5mins things start to get wet. I could have set the table up under the awning, but that would just mean more to pack up later.

  1. Cripes, what a wash out of a day. Such a shame you couldn’t visit the town en masse without your floaties. Looks like the locals were staying home too.
