Day 5 – Lounging about.

Today will be a relaxing day, it’s cruiseship day. Pacific Aria is visiting, so I’m happy to give town a miss.

In fact Ken and Chris have been to Vila a couple of times on Cruise Ships so it interesting for them to see it from the other side so to speak.

There is this black spot out in the water about 30 mtrs or so off the beach. At low tide there’s a metal rod coming out of the water.

It’s a small coral outcrop to the right of the house, maybe 70-80cm high and 2-3mtrs in diameter, It’s surface is right at the low water tide mark and at high tide there’s about a meter of water covering.  It’s not super colourful or anything, but there are heaps of small colourful fish that are calling this place home.   About 10mtrs away is another coral piece, about the size of a watermelon, and this one has some pretty aggressive clown fish.   While not spectacular it amazing to have this right at our doorstep so to speak.

Liam, Justine and I snorkel out to it and we float over the outcrop.  Caitlin stays back at the house, there a bit too much nature here for her.  She prefers the pool!

The water is so clear, and it’s a great temperature.

We all take a walk around the bay, past the “yacht club” and the boat yard to the cruise terminal.  They claim that there are markets here on ship days.  Well there might be, but they are on the wharf, which is consider immigration zone and the security guys don’t seem to be joking, so we can’t enter.  Ah well it was a nice walk anyway.

After lunch we take a look at the coral over at the left hand side of the bay closer to the point and Chris joins us and encourages Caitlin to come along.  Not as big or nice, and the swell is a bit stronger this afternoon, but still heaps of little fish around.  I’m sure glad we got the reef shoes, it just make is easier to get around.

There is this huge tree at the corner of the property and the beach, the base of the trunk must be 4+ mtrs in diameter.  There are some wood rungs nailed to it and someone has built a bit of a platform so the kids and Phillipe have fun climbing and hiding out in the tree.

The Cruise ship leaves earlier today, so it’s on the move before dark.  Bevvy in hand, we walk around to the ocean side of the point to see it sail away into one of the most golden sunsets I’ve ever seen. There is no filter or anything on this image.    We come across some of the local village’s pigs on the walk back, one mama and a few piglets.
