Day 4 – Ken & Chris fly in

I didn’t know it at the time, but this morning my nemesis arrived.  In the form of what I can only call a barely seaworthy cargo ship from the “Vanuatu Cargo” Co.  This thing is a wreck, if a cop in Australia pulled it over it would have a yellow stick faster that you can say “rusted metal”

It engine is noisy in a way that would wake the dead, it billows diesel smoke and about the only thing keeping it afloat is the bilge pumps that seem to be running 24/7.

…..But all that enjoyment was still to come.

We have a relaxing morning, the kids have a swim.  They seem to enjoy the pool better than the bay.  That’s fine that one of the reasons I pick this house they can do either and we still have the great view.

Ken and Chris arrive today at 3:10 and we need to arrange to pick them up from the airport this afternoon.   I’ve checked their flight and it all seems to be on time.

We arrange Karl to collect us early and we ask him this time to take us the scenic route and agree on a fixed fee, no shenanigans.

We take a trip around the far south end of Vila and up to the mountain behind the cruise terminal.  There are some nice houses up here, but eventually we start down this bush goat track (Gulp! Was I too harsh on him yesterday???) and we pull up at this spot to find a lookout back over the harbour and back at the house we’re staying it.  It a beautiful view.

Back through town past the Parliament house and convention centre, and a quick stop at the Anzac war memorial.    Then we head towards the Airport.

Ken and Chris collected, back through town and a stop at Au Bon Marché for some more supplies.

Home and dinner, all the while as it gets later and later, my cargo boat friend seems to be getting louder and louder. “How’s the serenity?”

Finally at about 10:00pm we hear the tone change and it starts to leave port.  Thank goodness, we might get some sleep now.
