Day 37 – Yass to Home

We were expecting near zero temperature, but I doesn’t feel that cold.  A flock of Galahs is feeding on the grass just outside the van.   We also get one final rainbow (#18 by Liam’s count)

The last day of any big trip is a little bittersweet, or is that anticlimactic?  Inevitably it means staying at a less than ideal spot.  This park, like most is pretty soulless.  It’s a pity about the heater, it would have been a nicer view down by the river, maybe a bit too wet and muddy to be practical.

It’s a bit of a carbon copy drive.  Like yesterday the road is dead quiet. It’s odd, but it really “feels” strange to drive this road with so little traffic.  Again like yesterday, water is pooled in all the paddocks.

For a change really good fuel economy while we cruise along.  A little more traffic enters from Canberra at the Federal Highway interchange, but still nothing like normal.

Again avoiding the Service Centres, which are practically empty, we divert into Mittagong for fuel and some lunch, as we drive north out of town to rejoin the freeway, the cops have a road block ready to stop any southbound cars entering town.

Trip summary.

A really enjoyable trip, we’d fluked the timing so well in many ways.   I really enjoy the South Australian coast, and finally getting onto the Great Ocean Road was a treat.  We were able to sneek an extra week in, but finally the real world caught up with us.

So, 5 weeks and all up about 5200km.  Another section of the Lap completed.  Will we ever make it to Tasmania?
