Day 103 – Peaceful Bay to Albany

Christmas Eve. About 120km to Albany.

We were able to drive into the site yesterday through another site, but that’s now full, there is a water tap right in the middle of the site, so getting out is going to be tricky. Ether the tap or the tent near to us are in serious risk.

After a slow packup, and a 20 point turn we leave Peaceful Bay and head off, the tent and water tap survived. We want to get to Albany as early as we can to so some last minute shopping for Xmas lunch. For the last few days it’s only been general stores and small IGAs

A quick stop in Denmark, it’s never too early for a pie at the local bakery, the town is pretty busy. There are a lot of caravans etc on the road.

We have a bit of a milestone, today we clocked over 20,000km since the start of the trip.

We arrive at the van park at 11:30, generally after 11 is OK. It’s a pretty small park, so they are squeezing everyone in. The sites themselves are big enough, but they are very close to each other.

We go through the full setup as we’re here for 4 nights.

We go to reception and pick up some mail. The kids have a card sent to the park from Nana Dawn.

As to be expected there are a few other families here, so the kids get a break from each other’s company and annoy some of the neighbours.

Being right on the beach facing the southern ocean, albeit behind a small dune, the winds are high and it ends up being a pretty chilly evening. Someone commented (I’m sure it’s old to others) that W.A. stands for “Windy. Always”. A quick trip down the beach to have a look.

At 5 we get a surprise visitor, the big man himself (or is it a helper, I can’t be sure) makes an entrance. The kids go absolutely mental. Some lolly bags are handed around and everyone gets a trip on the fire truck.

There are two other travelling families nearby, both on extended trips. One is from Canberra, the other from Brissy.

We spend the evening chatting with the family from Canberra. Swapping war stories.

Eventually we get the kids off to bed. Excited Much?

  1. So glad the cards turned up. Is that your first ever photo of the kids with Santa? one for posterity. At least the man in the red suit managed to track you down all the way from Sydney, what a relief for the kids.
