Day 90 – Lucky Bay to Seven Mile Beach (Geraldton)

A really nice night. Overnight a campervan and 4×4 with rooftop tent have turned up.

Kalbarri NP has two parts, one north of Kalbarri and the other to the south, the Southside is more about the coastline. We leave the van behind and take the opportunity to backtrack a bit to see some of the sights. We visit Natural Bridge and Island Rock.

Back, hitch up the van and we head south towards Geraldton. Yesterday afternoon and again today there is some cloud cover and some of the clouds ahead of us have a definite pink hue. About 15km south of us is Pink Lake, a lake tinted pink by a specific bacteria. I expected the lake to be pink, but was surprised to see the clouds pink too. We stop at the lookout for pink lake and it is…pink… there are heaps of tourist are around, so many taking selfies and a few with drones. Can’t people just take a photo anymore?

We carry onto Geraldton, it’s a big town, but not really a tourist destination, not for us at the moment anyway. We see a freecamp south of town on Seven Mile Beach. The reports are good so we head down. It’s not much more than a rough parking lot, but it’s large enough and there is one van here already. We um and ah about it, but we’re absolutely right on the beach so we decide to stay. You need to be fully self-contained, there’s no toilet or anything here at all.

After a quick setup we take a walk up and down the beach. We seem to have the beach to ourselves. So close to Perth, it is pretty special.

I love it here, a nice dinner off the weber, another beautiful sunset, and later in the night we watch some more stars. One other motorhome pulls in, but that all. We’ve pretty much got the place to ourselves.
