Day 19 – Cairns

Given the Train trip to Kuranda didn’t work out today we have another day of rest.

Given it’s the 1st of the month I take the opportunity to do some finance work. I send out a whole bunch of invoices before I realise that today is actually a public holiday. Ah well, maybe it looks like I’m a workaholic.

The kids have a go on the parks peddle cars, I thought it would wear them our more than it did. Then later in the day they have a “fire engine” ride, I wonder at what stage you get “too old” for this stuff, well apparently 9 is not it yet.

Given the lookout in Townsville was really great, we try and do the same thing here. We pick Campbells lookout, as we turn up to the lookout we see that the road goes up to Copperlode Dam, The sign says 16km, that’s not too far, so let’s take a look. Well this road gave some of the NZ roads a run for their money. The winding pretty much went on for the whole 16km. I was certainly glad not to have the van on. The view from the lookout was nice, the dam….well probably not worth the 16km.

In some respect Cairns has been a little disappointing, I guess I had low expectations of Townsville, but is was much nicer than I thought it would be, I had higher expectations of Cairns, but they haven’t really been lived up to. Call me fussy.
