Day 13 – Townsville

Up, drop off the car, get the courtesy car to drop me at the radiology centre, x-ray done, and I’m back at the caravan park by about 9:30.

A day to get washing done and do a little more re-arranging of stuff in the van. Let the kids go for a swim to burn off some energy.

Did I mention we must like airports, well Townsville has not just an airport, but a RAAF base to boot. So we see the odd fighter jet and a number of different defense force helicopters fly overhead.

Before I know it it’s time to pick up the car. I call the doctors surgery, and they have the x-ray results. Make a 3:30 appointment, arrive at 3:25, I don’t get called in until 4:25. Not happy Jan.

It was during this leisure time, that I realised we have not done anything really touristy in town. A quick search and it seems a drive up to Castle Hill is the go, although apparently some people walk up. As we get to the bottom, it was obviously a pretty tall hill (286m above sea level, 2.9km road distance, I googled it for you), and to our surprise, people were walking, running, cycling, pushing prams up this hill, dozens if not hundreds of them, there was even a guy with one leg riding a bike up. It was about 5pm so I guess this may be an after work pastime.

The view from the top was sensational, I was really surprised how big Townsville is.

A quick drive up “The Strand” and into the old part of town, and then down one of the main streets. Townsville is a really nice place. I’d be happy to come back, it somewhat of a pity we didn’t spend more tourist time here.

Ah the toe, yep fractured, a small chip of bone has come off, but there is not much they can or would want to do. I doesn’t hurt too much, and the swelling seem to be reducing already. I’ll save you the photos.
