Day 3 – “The Store” to Double Bay

Up breakfast and we drive up to “the store” for some coffee and some hot chocolates for the kids.  It’s early but they already have a great fire going inside.

We’re in vineyard country and a quick pit stop in Blenheim for some supplies and fuel.  We’re heading towards Picton, which is not far on the main road, but I don’t like main roads, so we take the coast road out via Robin Hood Bay where we have lunch by the side of the road then onto and Oyster Bay, it’s become really overcast and raining now, so the view’s not that great and driving conditions are a little more interesting.

Through Picton, and we drive pass a few small, what they call “slips” here, places where parts of the hill have come down on the road. Again these where just small ones, so not that much of a problem.  At a couple of section of road, they closed a lane as it looks like the road was ready to fall way.   I figure they know what they are doing.   They’re not afraid of single lanes out here.

We make our way to a campsite at a place called Double Bay.  The rain starts to ease.  We got a bit lucky here as there are only about 4 camps sites and soon the place is “full”.

A couple in another Merc Sprinter type motorhome turn up, apparently the van isn’t separately heated, other than the car heater, so they reckon last night they were super cold.

The kids have a run around, but it’s not a great weather day.
