Well last night was interesting. We arrived back at the van yesterday afternoon to find everything outside soaked, we elected to leave it all out, it couldn’t get any wetter. Well overnight, we were woken at midnight with the rain driving, wind howling and the awning thrashing, really rocking the van.

With the heater on all night it’s toasty warm in the van, maybe a bit too stuffy, so we’ll need to remember to leave a window open next time.

After waking several times, as you do when you know you need to get up extra early, the clock finally says 4:45, not much point trying to get 15mins more sleep. Like last time Liam is up early. We get ready in near record time and are on the road by 5:45. I’ve got to say doing a U turn with a caravan in Clarke St is interesting at the best of time, let alone 5:30.

What a difference a day makes, today there would be only 4 groups left and we’re practically alone here on the point.

Up early and start the packup and we’re out by about 9:30. 210km today.
As we are headed on the road to Dunedoo, we never actually go through the centre of Dubbo. About 50km out of Dubbo and we drive into this thick fog, up until now the skies have been pretty clear. After Goolma it clears again.

The title says it, but that’s not how the day specifically started. Again a really cold night, but at least this morning we can put the fan heater on. A long day today, not sure how far we’ll get but we’d like to get somewhere between Cobar and Dubbo. 400 to 600 km.

Fresh, but at least it’s not raining. Oddly it still seems to take us nearly and hour and a half to get up, feed, and packed ready to go. The track out is pretty easy in the end, and we drive back to town to visit the Brewarrina Fish Traps at the Aboriginal Cultural Museum. I’d read about these while researching the trip. Considered the oldest man-made structures in the world.

… Been out of contact for a few days, no internet…..
The park is still busy as we pack up. We check the radar for rain, but fortunately most of it is south of us, around Coonamble. Just before 10 we head off. One last time through town and we hit the road to Walgett. About 7 or 8km out of town is Stanley, a huge Emu Sculpture made of amongst other things several VW beetles, so we stop for a quick photo opp.

As expected a cold start, but it is a sunny morning and not too much wind. Breakfast on the picnic tables by the lake and we pack up slowly and enjoy the environment. While the location is great, I think if we came back, I’d probably pick one of the non-powered sites further around the lake that are more secluded.

We’re in the process of packing up, and we see a splash in the water, a fish. It might have been, but if it was, it was beening chased by a couple of dolphins. The kids are excited for at least a few seconds, but a tree they’ve been climbing for the last few days keeps their attention.
