We got up this morning, and as it’s pretty cold. Went to put the fan heater on, nope nothing. We realised there’s no 240v power. Liam said he saw the microwave (that needs 240) clock 20 or 30 mins ago, but it’s out now. We overhear some other people talking about a power outage, so it’s not just us. Fortunately, like most places, its warmer out in the sun than inside the van in the morning,

We left the diesel heater running for a while last night and on it’s lowest setting didn’t over heat the van, so with a couple of windows just open we left it running overnight. So this morning it’s warm, but not too stuffy in the van.

Alarm set for 7, but after being awake since 6, I’m up just after 6:30. It’s a really fresh morning in the van as we’ve got no power for either the electric or diesel heater. No one wants to get out from under the blankets. Eventually we all get going. Justine packs food just in case we can’t cross. I get the car ready. Just before we leave we talk to the park supervisor to see what options we have for power. She says we can use the generator during the day and without much conviction, says she will let us know if she can allocate a powered site if someone else leaves.

While I wake several times during the early morning, at about 7 I wake to the sound of rain, it’s not heavy, but given we’re on this muddy river bank and the road out is a steep track back to the roadway I figure we shouldn’t hang around. As it turns out after about 15mins the rain stops, so the urgency is gone, but we’re up now, so while we’ll go we can afford to wash and pack up properly. Our shoes now have literally 2cm of mud stuck to the bottom of them, this is mud like I’ve never seen before. It is like glue. It is the literal shit on a stick. A stick will not get it off! I need to change shoes to get in the car to drive off.

Fresh, but at least it’s not raining. Oddly it still seems to take us nearly and hour and a half to get up, feed, and packed ready to go. The track out is pretty easy in the end, and we drive back to town to visit the Brewarrina Fish Traps at the Aboriginal Cultural Museum. I’d read about these while researching the trip. Considered the oldest man-made structures in the world.

… Been out of contact for a few days, no internet…..
The park is still busy as we pack up. We check the radar for rain, but fortunately most of it is south of us, around Coonamble. Just before 10 we head off. One last time through town and we hit the road to Walgett. About 7 or 8km out of town is Stanley, a huge Emu Sculpture made of amongst other things several VW beetles, so we stop for a quick photo opp.

Awoken at 7:30 by the bloke in the next van using his power drill to wind up his stabilisers. You can use these drills on slow and they are pretty quiet, or you can be like this bloke and don’t give a F%^k$.

Justine had a fever last night, normally you’d not worry too much, but of course these are not normal times. There are no other real symptoms, other than feeling off. Not really sure what to do. Given we had Caitlin tested and she was negative, and we’ve been pretty careful to keep to ourselves. We figure we’ll wait and see. This morning, she is better and the fever has dropped, but not gone.

It was a really cold night, but with the extra blankets it was OK. Like a lot of sunny mornings, once the sun’s up, it’s warmer outside the van.

As expected a cold start, but it is a sunny morning and not too much wind. Breakfast on the picnic tables by the lake and we pack up slowly and enjoy the environment. While the location is great, I think if we came back, I’d probably pick one of the non-powered sites further around the lake that are more secluded.
