Day 4 – Eucumbene Dam

No early alarms today, and everyone has a good sleep in.   It’s not quite as cold as the previous morning, well at least the thermometer has been in positive territory.  There’s also been some rain overnight..

After a late start, I enjoy a walk around the lake foreshore.

As much as for something to do, we take a trip back to Berridale, and then over to the Eucumbene Dam wall.  As the Lake is the largest reservoir in the Snowy Mountains Scheme, I figured it would be an impressive dam…it’s not.  It’s big enough but it’s just a run of the mill earthen wall dam.  So just as well it wasn’t a special trip.

On the way back we finally find the shortcut I missed on the way out, Wainui Road, we missed coming here it as it looks like a farm entrance, but it is in fact a gazetted road.   As Justine is driving she gets the fun of traversing this road.   It ends up being a pretty quick trip back to the campground.

I think about a fire, it so cold that it’s just warmer to stay inside, the kids aren’t really that keen. In the end, I think this might be my only chance, so what the hell.  After an hour or so when it really gets going it ends up being really nice in front of the fire. A few marshmallows tempt the kids outside, but only for a short while.
