One Small Lap
… Been out of contact for a few days, no internet…..
The park is still busy as we pack up. We check the radar for rain, but fortunately most of it is south of us, around Coonamble. Just before 10 we head off. One last time through town and we hit the road to Walgett. About 7 or 8km out of town is Stanley, a huge Emu Sculpture made of amongst other things several VW beetles, so we stop for a quick photo opp.

Awoken at 7:30 by the bloke in the next van using his power drill to wind up his stabilisers. You can use these drills on slow and they are pretty quiet, or you can be like this bloke and don’t give a F%^k$.

Justine had a fever last night, normally you’d not worry too much, but of course these are not normal times. There are no other real symptoms, other than feeling off. Not really sure what to do. Given we had Caitlin tested and she was negative, and we’ve been pretty careful to keep to ourselves. We figure we’ll wait and see. This morning, she is better and the fever has dropped, but not gone.

As expected a cold start, but it is a sunny morning and not too much wind. Breakfast on the picnic tables by the lake and we pack up slowly and enjoy the environment. While the location is great, I think if we came back, I’d probably pick one of the non-powered sites further around the lake that are more secluded.

A late start (after a middle of the night wake up from Caitlin). So we’re not out till just after 10am. Fortunately we only need to go about 30odd km today. We navigate the great backroads and pull in to Lake Yarrie, this perfectly round lake. It’s about 800m or so in diameter, and only about 6’ (2mtr) deep. We get a powered site right on the lake for only $25, bargain! But better than the price is the location. A beautiful day, and while only in the teens, there was little wind and it’s amazing in the sun.

Wow what a day. A fresh start to the morning, thermometer says 10°, but in the sun it not too bad. We start the 50 odd km drive in to Mt Kaputar. About 20 or 30 km of tar, then we hit the dirt. It’s much rougher that I expect and shortly we pull over and drop the tyre pressures, it makes a big difference.

Today is really just a day of driving about 400km. Up though the Hunter Valley, a trip we’ve done numerus times up the New England to Queensland, but this time we turn off at Willow Tree.
