Day 133 – Hill End to Home

Up early as I want to be on the road by 8, in the end we away at 8:15. As with yesterday the roads are interesting with the van on.

We arrive at Sofala, this is even more rustic than Hill End. I guess more of the town is still intact, where with Hill End, many building are gone so there are just these remaining building spread out all over the place.

There seems to be some nice camping spots around, and some freecamps by the river. Maybe we’ll need to come back here for a visit sometime.

More up and down hill, and surprisingly the fuel economy is not too bad. We finally arrive at the intersection with the Great Western Highway, just outside Lithgow. Now for the bit I don’t like about this drive, the 1hr trip over the Blue Mountains and more specifically for THIS drive, the 2.5 km of uphill that is Mt Victoria Pass. I’m stuck behind a truck, and it is going even slower than I am, it’s only near the top that an opportunity comes to overtake.

Now for the run down the Mountains. Given the slow speed limits, I coast on a lot of the downhill runs and while the traffic is constant, it’s not too bad.

We complete the run into home and park up out front. It had to be on the last day, but today was officially the best fuel economy I’ve had on the whole trip with the van in 14.6l/100km

19weeks, just over 4 months, 26209.4 km.
