Day 60 – Edith Falls to Katherine

Up early, although neither Justine nor I have slept very well in the heat. The kids aren’t keen on the walk but we encourage them to do it.

The loop walk to the upper pools is meant to be 2.6km, I purposely pick the harder section in, I figure once we have a swim the kids will forget the past. The pools at the top are nice, but maybe not up to the hype. In any case we enjoy our swim and soak up the area. I have to say most people doing the walk are in boots, but we’re in thongs or sandals, they must be soft!

After the walk we have another dip in the bottom pool, before packing up and heading south to Katherine.

Katherine is an important part of the trip, not only do we need to do the gorge, this is the place that we turn west. So it’s a pretty significant milestone in the trip.

We pick the (hopefully) nicer of the van parks as we’re here for 2 nights. It turns out to be lovely & shady, with a great pool. We’ve booked in to do a cruise up Katherine Gorge tomorrow, with a swim thrown in as well. Maybe we’ll finally get to see a croc!

We try and relax a bit and keep cool, something we’ve not been able to do the last two nights. We’ll need to balance the off grid camping with those that have power pretty carefully over the next few week.
