Day 53 – Darwin

A bit of a sleep in, it is Sunday after all. When we arrived last night, the woman at reception said if we liked the look of another site, with better shade etc., then ask them and if it has not been booked we can move. Given its low season now, most van parks are pretty empty.

The one we are in has no shade, so we scout out a better site and decide to move. Given we’ll be here for a few days we setup a bit more than we would just for overnight.

Out with the washing and then a quick swim. It’s really humid here, over the last few days we moved from hot and dry to hot and humid. Gotta say, I prefer the first one.

Some lunch and we hear these huge thunder claps, we can see dark clouds in the not so far off distance, but nothing where we are. According to the BOM site, a couple of small storm cells are to the north and south of us.

After lunch we take a trip into Darwin itself, we are about 15km out from the city. To help orientate us and we’ll need to get some supplies for tonight.

On the trip in we must just have missed the storm, all of the drains and gutters are running with torrents of water. Must have been short and sharp.

I use some downtime to finish the job of washing the van that I started 4 or 5 days ago.
