Van Modifications

A few modifications to the van.

I’ve realised I would like to shift a little weigh to the rear, if I move over the spare tyre, I can fit a small toolbox to the rear bumper bar and use that to balance the weight and to have a little more storage room. So off with the bumper bar to take it to a steel fabricator and have some support brackets welded on. The only toolboxes I could seem to find were just plain aluminum checker plate, given everything else is black checker plate, there was no choice but to send it off to the powder coater’s to get it fixed up

We’ve decided that while the wire baskets in the tall pantry look great, they are not completely practical and waste a bit of space. So we’ve take two of them out and replaced it with a shelf. I’ve cut two shelves so if we find it does work better, we’ll ditch the other baskets and I can fit the 2nd shelf on the trip.

Got the Weber Baby Q installed. I really wanted the Ziggy, but it was just a little bit deeper and would not fit in the hatch properly

Added a bit more protection to some of the underside pipes. Hopefully this will protect them at bit better from stone damage.

Some friends of ours have just returned from a 3 month trip and at one point in their trip there where photos of them taping cardboard to the rear of the car and front of the van, so when I asked them about how bad the stone damage could be? They immediately said to get a stone stomper. I had been looking into them anyway, but with this recommendation I knew I needed to get one. I also knew they were custom made to order and we didn’t have much time. Pretty great service, I ordered it with all the correct measurements on Tuesday, it was delivered on Friday.
