Time to Mod the Car

Just over a month before D-Day.

We got the MUX a week ago

I’ve been looking at the rear seats and trying to decide if we keep them.   To use the third row we would need to remove the cargo barrier, as this sits across the seats.  While I probably would not have bought a cargo barrier, given the car came with one, it seemed silly not to use it.

Anyway, we pulled it out and tested the third row, similarly to the third row in the Santa Fe, it was quite claustrophobic in the back, and we felt it would be more comfortable to have three in the back seat for the little time there will be 5 of us on the trip.

So we don’t need the third row?   I started seeing what was involved in removing them, it was only a hand full of bolts

…….one 14mm socket later, the 1st seat was out.  It weighed around 20kg, so that and the extra usable space made it a bit of a no brainer, shortly after both where gone.

Justine wanted to keep the cargo barrier for safety, so something was needed to support it now the seats where gone. Also I figured we needed some way to organise the boot storage.

A few sketches, a trip to Bunnings, dusting off the triton work bench, a splinter or two and Voila, one cargo storage box.  I was going to go over the top and put slide rails and draws in, but then I thought, just keep it simple.   I think it worked out better this way.

That and the side mirrors that would not look out of place on a Mack truck.
