Day 5 – French Pass to Motueka

What a different day, the sun is out, almost no clouds in the sky.  It a beautiful start to the day.  Such a beautiful spot (still not sure it’s worth the $40!)

We drive a couple of Km back up the road and take the French Pass lookout track, this overlooks the water way between here and the Island.   On the tide changes the water comes through here at a major clip.  There is a small lighthouse on the side of the cliff and another in the middle of the channel to warn shipping.  You’d have to be nuts to bring a boat through here!

We then attempt this road back out.  I can tell you I’m hugging the hill side of the road, at least that the left on the way out, as that drop is pretty big.

With such a sunny day, the view is 100% on yesterday, and it makes the trip out here so worthwhile.  The scenery out over the sounds is breathtaking.

A quick morning tea break back at Okiwi Bay, so I can regroup after that drive.

Back onto the main highway and we pass these massive tidal flats as we drive into Nelson.   A bit of shopping and lunch in the Woolies (Countdown) carpark.

We carry on beside the coastline as we head to Motueka.  They have a freecamp here, beside the bay just south of town.

We take a nice long walk all the way up the beach and then make our way back via some backstreets and parkland, and finally via the small port and then back to the van.   The tide seems to be coming in, so the mud flats are starting to filling up.

We go to make a coffee and find out I’ve mistakenly bought two litres of Full Cream, rather than Full Cream Milk, who the hell buys let alone sells cream like this.   A definite NZ thing.

This is one of the down sides of a motorhome.  The nearest shop, a servo, is about 3km away, a little too far to walk and it’s getting cold and dark.   The freecamp area only has a few spots and there are already a few campers here, that and we need to pack everything away for a 6km round trip to get some damn milk.  Justine and the kids play in the local playground and I go and get the milk and we’re now back in the same spot.
