As Darren is away for a few days, the kids & I vote on what to do – the pearl farm tour comes up on top (surprisingly, the kids voted for that over the croc park – you never can tell what they will want).

Newcastle
I think I might have had an hours sleep on the flight. Not much, but at least something.
Day 73 – Broome Day 3
There should be things to do today, but I’m just not into it.
I’ve got a 3pm flight to Perth then the redeye back to Sydney. I should get up to Newcastle around lunchtime tomorrow (Sunday).
Justine drops me off at the airport.
Day 72 – Broome Day
Over to the visitor’s centre, but most things are closed for the season or are overpriced for what they offer. I do however pick up some guides for regions we will be visiting over the next few weeks so this will help our planning.
Day 71 – Broome –
Up early and get the car over to the local Isuzu dealer for it’s 30k service. They indicated if I got it there earlier they would get it ready sooner. After waiting an hour to be driven back to the van park and seeing the car hasn’t moved yet, let’s just say I’m not holding my breath.

It’s still 220km to Broome. 40km back to the highway, then onto Broome. For the last three days, other than the odd roadhouse to get fuel, there is nothing out here. You can see some roads leading to cattle stations, but there is not much else.
Day 69 – Fitzroy Crossing to Derby
We contemplate doing the Geikie Gorge, but by the time we would be able to get there it will probably be too hot. Another attraction, I wouldn’t mind seeing is Tunnel Creek, They say you need to wade into the water to get here, but at least we know that in advance. What we don’t know though is the condition of the dirt road in. It’s marked as a 4×4 road, so we’re not keen on taking the van down a road we’re not sure of the condition of.
Day 68 – Bungle Bungles to Fitzroy Crossing
A long drive today, about 400km. There is not a lot on the way. We stop in at Halls Creek, a bigger town than we expected. We take a short side trip out to the China Wall.
Day 67 – Warnum to Bungle Bungles
We wake at stupid o’clock (about 5:30), we’re not adjusting well to WA time. We’re all awake so we figure we’ll hit the road early and try and leapfrog Halls Creek and head to Fitzroy Crossing. It’s about 400km so it will be full day of driving. Overnight it has rained and it is actually pretty cool for up here. When we leave at 7:30 the car is only reporting 24°, this is the coolest I think we’ve seen since Uluru.

We drive up to the Five Rivers again to see the view a little better in the morning without the clouds. The view is a little better, but there is quite a haze around so still not super clear.
