A bit of an interesting night. The group across the road, didn’t end up being as bad as expected. The group beside us made up for them. In the end they were both better than we feared.

An odd start to the day, we’re not up particularly early as we’re not in any hurry. The plan is to camp in the Aire River National park for the next three nights. While there are drop toilets there will be nothing else, a little preparation is needed. So by the time we have breaky, have showers, empty the dunny and get everything packed up it’s after 11 when we pull out. Fortunately it’s only 70 or so Km up the road to the national park.

A great morning, we’ve only got 70km to go today, so we’re in no rush. The morning is much like yesterday afternoon, alternating between light rain, mist and then the occasional sunny period. All withing 5min or each other.

Up earlier than normal so I can spend a bit of extra time with Mum. The issue with the car has robbed us of a day here and at Polblue where we had planned to spend two nights.

A nice easy drive today. We navigate the back route from Dubbo through to just before Mudgee and then divert towards Hill End. I think I recall going there as a kid, but I can’t remember much of it.

After a lazy start to the morning, we all get organised, and take off to visit some of the sites of the National Park. We drive back to the start of the park to see Wanna Lookout, it’s blowing a gale, but it’s a great spot.

We drive into town, I drop the family off at the local park and drive over to the car service centre. The 40,000km is a big one and they say they’ll need the car for 5 hrs. Our Sydney friends are over in the national park, and it would have been good to camp with them overnight, but we’re not sure if that’s possible.

Casual morning, we pack up and head off. It’s about 80odd kms, so it takes around an hour.
Day 79 – Port Hedland to Karajini
After breakfast I walk up to the viewing platform near the bay, Low tide again. The tides should start working in our favour next week.

The alarm gets us up just before 6, nobody likes it, but it is the only way we can attempt these walks given the heat. I’ve lived in Sydney pretty much all my life, and I can remember a few days of 40° repeating. However, I’d be surprised here if we’ve had a day under 35 in the last month.
