We don’t need to travel quite so far today, we do a quick detour into Daly waters, seems like a strange (in a quirky way) place, and might have been an interesting place to stay. Given it’s only 10:30 a bit too early for a beer.
Day 48 –Devils’ Marbles to Dunamarra
A peaceful night, and when we get up at 7, we notice that at least 4 or 5 campers have already left. This has happened a few times and we wonder how they can do it without us hearing them.

OK, so that didn’t work out as planned. 2:15am, and the noise of the rain and the awning thrashing about makes us jump into action. Out, and throw the chairs under the van and put the awning away. The lighting is a lot closer than we’re comfortable with, but we get it done. At least the wind is nowhere near as bad as the night on the Plenty.
Day 44 – Part 2 – In Alice
Well the last few days have been unexpected. After the fridge shut down, we headed into Alice to organise repairs.

I spend the day flying to Sydney and then driving up to Newcastle.
Justine, Dawn and the kids visit the megafauna centre in the Centre of Alice. They reckon in the heat, Alice was practically deserted.
Day 42 – Redbank Gorge back to Alice
We start the drive back to Alice, It’s not far before we hit Glen Helen, and to our surprise there is Optus coverage, and some guys see us on the phone and ask us who were with, they’ve got Telstra and no coverage.

But first we take one last walk at Uluru. There was an additional section of the base walk called the Kuniya Walk, as we had only just started out yesterday when we came across this detour, we were not sure if we would have the time, in hindsight we would have done it easy. It was a really nice way to spend the morning, once in the gorge is was so quiet. I would have loved to been able to spend some more time here, and certainly glad we came back for visit.

Alarm off at 5:00am, so we can be up and ready to start the base walk. It’s a 10.6km (that last .6 is important), 3.5hr walk.
Day 37 – Uluru – Kata Tjuta Walk
Up early. It’s going to be another scorcher today. Predicted to get up to around 39°. Tomorrow is meant to be a bit cooler.
So this morning we’ll go out to Kata Tjuta (Olgas) early and do a shorter walk into Walpa Gorge before it gets too hot. It’s about 50km to Kata Tjuta, so we head off at 6:15 with a bit of a drive ahead.

A reasonably long day of driving today, about 450km which should take just over 5 hours with a couple of brief stops.
