This post was one I didn’t think I would need to write. It’s the reason I’m back in Newcastle.
My brother has been in and out of hospital and has had a lot of abdominal surgeries and chemo to battle his cancer. A month back the surgical options ran out, and it was deemed the chemo was not doing anything either. At the time we’ve been told this would leave many months to become critical, well unfortunately it didn’t take that long. Complications have returned rapidly and there is really nothing they can do, as such they have given him the rather blunt news that he has only days to weeks to live, talk about a shitty outcome.
He was in hospital, so I had to take the opportunity to visit while I could. Late yesterday he was transferred from the hospital ward to a Hospice. While the whole situation is crap, it was really nice to see his all his family and friends show up to visit, at one stage we had completely overtaken the family area.
Tonight I said goodbye and saw him for what is likely to be the last time. While awful, I know some people don’t even get this opportunity. Somehow “I love you” and “I’ll miss you” don’t seem enough. But, rest assured, I do and will.
