Day 35 – Alice Springs

Day 35 – Alice Springs

Today we pick up Justine’s mum, Dawn. She will be with us for the next 10 days. Last night we tested Caitlin sleeping on one of the bench cushions. We were going to have her where the table is, but we’ve worked out her legs can actually fit under our fold down bed. She loves it, it’s a bit like sleeping in a cubby.

We take a trip out to the local Aviation Museum, I enjoy it, not sure the rest of the family do. They have a great exhibit of the actual wreck of the Kookaburra, a plane that crashed searching for Kingsford Smith when he was forced to land in central Australia. Seeing what these guys took, compared to what we’re hauling. All I can say is different times. Oh and they didn’t make it.

Then over to the cultural precinct and the art gallery. The painting are pretty amazing, and appear to have price tags to match. While we’ve all seen the dot painting, I’m really taken with a couple of pieces by Robert Fielding. They are photos, of his artworks. It’s really original, certainly to me. You can see some of his work here.  https://weburbanist.com/2018/07/29/parked-outback-robert-fieldings-oz-some-art-cars/

On a side note, I’ve got a comprehensive tool kit, and with a bunch of stuff to make all sorts of repairs. Things like fencing wire, hose claps, gaffa tape and of course plenty of cable ties. I though the repair might be more serious than a broken ipad holder!

We leave here and head to the airport. Why are Airport companies just bastards? We’re in Alice Springs, there is more land than you can poke a stick at, but they still charge $5 for 15mins of parking. They lay it out so there is no place you can just pull over for a couple of minutes.

A quick lap of the Town, they certainly tried hard to fit the town within all the rocky hills. The van park is just to the south of Alice, on the other side of “The Gap” and across the Todd River.

Oh, the problem with the car. Gone, the things working fine today. Must be that red dust.
Tomorrow Yulara to visit Uluru.
