A long drive today, about 400km. There is not a lot on the way. We stop in at Halls Creek, a bigger town than we expected. We take a short side trip out to the China Wall.
Again we have that situation of turning a corner and the landscape just changing. We’re driving along a flat plain, flat as far as the eye can see, then 10km later and bang, there are all these ridges and valleys, and as soon as they appear, they are gone.
these within 10km of each other
We arrive at Fitzroy Crossing and pull in the Fitzroy Crossing Lodge, interestingly all the building are built up on hills or stilts, while the van park is down on land that must flood from time to time.
As we drive down from the reception building we see a few wallabies, then as we get down to the flat, we see dozens of them all having a feed on the grass. As we move on we realise there must be a few hundred of them. They are everywhere.
There must have a hundred van sites, but again there are only maybe a dozen vans here. Like Bungles all the “glamping tents” have been taken down for the season.
Over to the pool for a swim, as we walk across the grass we have the eyes of a hundred wallabies looking at us.

We’ve been out of mobile range for a few days particularly at the nightly camp sites, but today I get news that we all knew was coming. My brother Ken, passed away late last night. He’d been sleeping for most of the last few days and we all knew it was coming. Still incredibly sad to hear the news. At least he is free from the pain he’s been in the last months. My thoughts are now for his wife, three adult children and our mother.
Sad news Darren. Trixie and I send our condolences to you and all families. Cancer sucks
Thanks Sean, I may see you in a few days
If there is anything I can do when you return hopefully I can assist…
