As Darren is away for a few days, the kids & I vote on what to do – the pearl farm tour comes up on top (surprisingly, the kids voted for that over the croc park – you never can tell what they will want).
It’s only 35 km out of town, but 20km is dirt, and they suggest an hour to do it. Right – we leave with the full hour to spare, and I’ve got my game face on. As it turns out, the road is fine- a few wobbly bits, lots of soft bull dust, but mostly fine.
The tour starts on time, with about 15 other people. It’s interesting, but not sure how engaging it is for the kids. All Caitlin want to know is when the boat leaves (there is a short boat ride in the tour). Eventually the kids get to open an oyster and dig out a pearl, which they want to keep, but haha, no way.
The boat ride is cool – we are on Willie Creek which is a tidal estuary. The tide is coming in at an astonishing rate, and the water is a stunning pale blue colour. No crocs today, would have been great to see a salty.
Tour ends, unsurprisingly, in the gift shop. I have a look, and ignore Caitlin’s pleas of “Can we buy something”. Not at $4000 we can’t, sorry.
We head back to the van park, for lunch, a swim and a quiet afternoon. We had rented a DVD the night before, which the kids rewatched before returning. I took the opportunity to read, quietly.
Hey…with all the movies you’re watching…maybe you should give a few reviews. Saw 3 Billboards awhile back…crap for kids…bloody unreal for adults.
And what the hell…kids prefer sedentary oysters over a manic croc…c’mon!!!
