It’s still 220km to Broome. 40km back to the highway, then onto Broome. For the last three days, other than the odd roadhouse to get fuel, there is nothing out here. You can see some roads leading to cattle stations, but there is not much else.
It’s surprising how much at the mercy of the wind conditions we are. Yesterday the drive was pretty easy and the car was cruising along, and we got pretty good economy (for us that is). Today, complete opposite. The car doesn’t want to budge from 4th, and it’s a real struggle and the fuel economy is showing it.
We arrive in Broome and do a bit of a reccy on the van parks over near Cable Beach. They are much the same, but one has a pay 3 stay 4, so that gets the jersey.
Over to the pool, which is warmer than some baths I’ve had. I can’t get out fast enough.
A trip into Broome to get a feel for the town. Derby was much like a country town, pretty much laid out in a grid pattern with a wide main street. Broome is sort of all over the place. It certainly doesn’t seem like a hell of a lot of time on town planning has been spent here.
The tide is out and the water here looks wonderful, lovely and blue. We’ll need to see in town if the stingers have started yet before we look at swimming. There are some 4x4s down on the beach, so I’m looking forward to having some fun in the car in the coming days.
